Source: City of Gatlinburg

Gatlinburg offers a variety of activities, attractions and scenic adventures to get you through the three-day weekend. Here are just a few of the best ways to celebrate Memorial Day weekend in Gatlinburg.

Hike to a Waterfall

Everyone in the family will be thrilled to encounter a picturesque waterfall at the end of a hike in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. One of the best is Grotto Falls, a cascade of water you can walk behind. A short, easy hike off the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail takes you there. Another easy hike for kids is Laurel Falls which is a 2.6 mile hike on a paved trail. Learn more about the waterfalls near Gatlinburg here. Or stop by the Sugarlands Visitor Center for a waterfalls map.

Have a Day on the River

Many Gatlinburg rafting outfitters have been paddling on Smoky Mountain waterways for years. They pride themselves on their well-trained guides, who safely and expertly navigate rafters through countless rip-roaring adventures every season. Ask them about their beginner rafting routes or the more challenging runs for greater thrills. Find out more about our recommended whitewater rafting outfitters.

Hit the Town

Explore Gatlinburg’s famous walkable streets at night. With everything from family-friendly activities to nighttime entertainment, there is something for every visitor. Catch live performances at Ole Red Gatlinburg, the season’s newest comedy show at Sweet Fanny Adams Theatre, or add a little mind-blowing magic to your life when you sit down to enjoy the Impossibilities Show.

Get High Above Gatlinburg

No doubt one of the best ways to see Gatlinburg is from high above! Thankful downtown offers plenty of ways to get there. Ride 1,800 feet over Gatlinburg on the Gatlinburg SkyLift and take a walk on North America’s longest one-of-a-kind SkyBridge for exhilarating views of Gatlinburg and the Smoky Mountains. You can also gain some elevation – and not to mention some epic scenery – on the Gatlinburg Aerial Tramway, one of the largest trams in the country. Or ride to the top of Anakeesta Mountain, a 70-acre aerial adventure park to enjoy scenic views, ziplines, tree canopy walks, dining and more.

Brush Up on Your Mini Golf Game

Gatlinburg has numerous courses for mini golf enthusiasts. Hillbilly Golf is a unique course you get to by riding the incline 300 feet above the city. This fun-themed course features two 18-hole courses with plenty of mountaineer challenges and obstacles to keep your game interesting. Other courses include Gatlin’s Mini Golf, one of the many family-fun attractions at Gatlin’s Fun Center, Ripley’s Davy Crockett Mini Golf and Circus Golf, which sports spectacular scenes including a black-light section.
